After the death of his uncle, Peter Parker wants to help his Aunt May pay the bills. He contacts a show promoter and performs as Spider-Man. When he is paid by check, he finds that he can't cash it because he kept his true name a secret. Peter then learns that he can no longer perform for the public because J. Jonah Jameson, the publisher of the Daily Bugle has begun a smear campaign which ruins Spider-Man's reputation.
Unable to find a job, Peter dons his Spider-Man costume once more. This time he tries to help Jonah's son, John Jameson. They younger Jameson is a test pilot. During a test flight, John's capsule manfunctions. Spider-Man uses his powers to reach the capsule and deliver a replacement part that fixed the controls. John is saved, but Jonah accuses Spider-Man of having caused the accident. As a result Spider-Man becomes a wanted man.
