Comments:
This is the last Silver Age Cave Carson story.

Synopsis:
Cave and his team are brought to an underground city while they are testing a new saucer shaped hovercraft. The city is an underground utopia run by Dr. Damion. Damion asks Cave to take over as the city's leader because he is dying. Cave promises to think it over.

While trapped in the underground city, Johnny and Christie encounter an energy creature. Dr. Damion is able to chase it away, but their weapon is running dangerously low of power. Cave decides to help them find a way to stop the creature once and for all. Johnny then tries to escape the city in the saucer. He is caught in a trap and turned to stone. Cave and the other eventually defeat the energy creature, but can't restore Johnny.

Cave turns down Damion's offer to rule the city. Bulldozer decides to stay behind and live in Xanadu. Christie and Cave prepare to leave, but on the way out Johnny recovers. Johnny leaves with them, and Bulldozer reconsiders too. The adventurers then return to the surface.
