Synopsis:
Cave Carson and his team are asked to investigate a sink hole that has opened under the South American city Las Esperanzas. A fire giant has also appeared inside the hole. The face of the giant resembles Cave's old rival Johnny Blake.
When they arrive in South America, Cave's team is attacked by natives who believe in the legend of a fire bird. Christie is then kidnapped by the fire giant. Cave and Bulldozer slip past the natives and into the sink hole.
Inside they find Christie and the missing Johnny Blake unconscious. Another fire giant resembling Christie threatens Cave and Bulldozer too. Bulldozer falls into an underground river and is swept away.
Bulldozer returns later after having stolen an emerald sceptre. The sceptre is used to release the fire bird. Cave carries Christie and Johnny out of the cave where they are revived. When they do, the fire giants disappear. Cave then destroys the fire bird, saving the city.
