The Fear Machine, Part I
This story continues in part in Hellblazer #15.
Synopsis:
John awakens in the bed of a woman he met at a bar the previous evening. He sneaks out of the house and picks up a paper at the nearby market. The tabloids feature his photograph and a headline entitled "Face of Evil". The text indicates he is sought after by the police.
Seeking to get out of town, John starts hitchhiking. After a brief encounter with two policemen, John comes into the company of a trio of wanderers, Marj, Mercury, and Eddie. The group takes him in and eventually introduces him to the Freedom Mob, a group of traveling survivalists who live off the land. Although, John is uncomfortable outside the city, he attempts to fit in with them.
