Synopsis:
Hal and Guy are powerless and stand in the way of a group of charging fire creatures on Oa. Tomar-Tu leads a groups of Xudarians to help. Rose Hardin also joins a group of men from Hope Springs to lend a hand. After the fire creatures are pushed back, Hal checks on one of the fallen Guardians. Hal learns that they are using most of their power to maintain the stolen cities instead of fighting the mad Guardian.
Hal devises a plan. He instructs one of the Guardians to relay a message to the others to stop maintaining the cities. He then finds John Stewart, who is unwillingly helping Appa Ali Apsa. Hal helps John to break through the Guardian's control. First he uses John to keep the cities intact, then he uses him as a way into the mind of the old timer. This momentary lapse of mental control allows the combined Guardians of the Universe to overpower their former member. The old timer dies.
With order restored, the Guardians announce their permanent return and intention to revive the Green Lantern Corps. One of the three remaining Green Lanterns will be sent to recruit new members, one will remain on Oa, and the third will be returned to Earth. Guy speculates that Hal will get the assignment to return home, but the Guardians do not announce their decision.
