History:
On the night that Camelot, the palace of King Arthur, fell, the powerful sorcerer Merlin was its last remaining defender against the armies and supernatural forces led against it by the sorceress Morgaine Le Fey. Against Morgaine's forces he unleashed a demon from hell, Etrigan, whom he had placed under his control. But despite the havoc that Etrigan wreaked against the enemy, Merlin knew that Camelot was doomed. He placed a spell upon Etrigan, causing him to transform into a human who left the ruins of Camelot. (A portrait exists that shows Etrigan's human form as a knight, presumably during Arthur's reign, but this is the first recorded transformation of Etrigan into a human being.)

Etrigan's human form lived on through the succeeding centuries. It is unknown whether he reverted to demonic form during these years. Several years ago, however, Etrigan's human form was living in Gotham City under the name of Jason Blood. Blood was seemingly unaware of his demonic identity until a spell was pronounced that once more transformed him into the Demon.

Since then Blood has often become the Demon to battle Morgaine Le Fey and other mystical menaces. At first Blood despised and feared his demonic self, and even once attempted to destroy it. Recently, however, Blood has attempted to bring about a partial integration of his two personalities. He has not been happy with the result, for his human side has become colder and less humane, while his demonic side seems to Blood to have become more ruthless, while taking on some of Blood's intellect. Blood fears that his human personality will be permanently submerged within Etrigan's.

Nevertheless, Etrigan is quite different from his demonic "kin" in Hell, for he continues to act to safeguard humanity from mystical threats. Presumably, Etrigan does so because of the humanizing influence of his Jason Blood personality.

Recently, Etrigan has taken to speaking in rhyming verse, with a macabre effect on his listeners.

Powers:
The Demon is superhumanly strong and agile, can use his sharp fangs and claws to savage effect, and can emit mystical flames from his mouth. The Demon is also capable of casting various spells.

In human form Jason Blood possesses no powers, although he too can cast some spells. Also, both as Blood and Etrigan, he can sense what has happened and will happen in the lives of those he meets.

Blood transforms into the Demon when either he or another person with mystical talent speaks the spell "Change! Change! Transmogrify! Free the might from fleshy mire! Boil the blood in heart of fire! Gone, gone the form of man! Rise the Demon Etrigan." Another spell must be spoken to cause the Demon to transform back into Blood.
