History:
Toto was considered one of the most intelligent chimps on Earth when Lois Lane first met him while emceeing a charity show. A slapstick comic accidentally hit Toto with a pie, and Lois wiped it off him, winning his friendship.

Lois was later to cover a rocket launching for a TV network, with Toto sent up in a satellite for a week. While in space, his capsule was bombarded with radiation from two meteroids which collided, one contained traces of uranium, while the other was pure Kryptonite.

Upon landing, Toto seemed unaffected by his experience, but moments after exiting the capsule, he suddenly grew to tremendous size. Recognizing Lois, he picked her up. Fearing for her safety, Superman flew to the rescue, only to be knocked earthward by Toto's new power: Kryptonite vision.

Though not malicious, Titano, as he was renamed by Lois, was strong enough to accidentally do a great deal of damage. Lois finally used the ape's tendency to imitate others to get him to don lead spectacles, which protected Superman from his K-vision till the Man of Steel could hurl him into the prehistoric past, where he would be among other giant creatures.

Superman had another run-in with Titano when a machine from another world transported him to the present. Later, he was again brought to the present under unexplained circumstances. Jimmy Olsen (as Elastic Lad) used a serum given him by the Legion of Super-Heroes to duplicate Colossal Boy's power and, as a giant, he finally beat Titano. Allura, a friend who is a princess of the Ashtar system, arrived to take him to her own world of giants. There the huge ape found a mate.

When last seen, Titano was teleported to Earth by Dr. Albert Michaels and his henchmen in Skull. Michaels had placed an implant in Titano's brian which enabled him to control the ape telepathically. By keeping the Atomic Skull unconscious, Superman was able to trap the now-docile Titano and return him to his planet of giants.

Powers:
Because of his size, Titano is incredibly powerful, posing a threat to anyone in the vicinity even though he means no harm. When he turns on his Kryptonite vision, he could, if he used it long enough, even kill Superman.
