History:
Married young to a wealthy man who physically abused her, Selina Kyle divorced her husband and found herself ruined financially, professionally, and emotionally by her ex-husband's connections. Seeking revenge, Selina sneaked into his estate one night while her ex-husband was out of town and stole the jewelry he had bought for Selina and then kept for himself.

Intoxicated by the thrill she'd felt while committing the robbery, Selina decided to pursue a life of crime, rationalizing that she deserved the things she stole because of all the pain she had suffered. Having grown up in her father's pet shop, and possessed of a lifelong affection for cats, Selina decided to adopt a feline motif to mask her true identity, becoming first a Halloween-masked jewel thief known only as the Cat, then at last donning the more familiar costume of the Catwoman.

For years the Catwoman found her criminal efforts opposed by the Batman and Robin, developing an unspoken love for the Dark Knight that would one day change both their lives.

Finally tiring of crime, Selina decided to make a clean break. Fabricating a story about having had amnesia for all the years of her criminal career, Selina received a full pardon and opened a small pet store of her own. Sometime later, she returned to crime and was sent to prison for her misdeeds.

Months later, while pursuing the sinister Scarecrow, the Batman asked Selina for her help, promising complete amnesty in return. During the course of that adventure, the two finally acknowledged their true feelings for one another, and the Batman revealed to her that he was really Bruce Wayne.

Shortly thereafter, the two married, their union producing a daughter, Helena. The Batman went into semi-retirement, and he and Selina spent many happy years together, until Selina was blackmailed by a member of her old gang into committing one more crime as the Catwoman, a crime that was foiled by the Batman but still resulted in Selina's accidental death.

That night, the Batman retired permanently, burning his costume, while Helena Wayne swore to avenge her mother's death, becoming the crimebusting Huntress.

Powers:
While the Catwoman possessed no true super-powers, she was an Olympic-level athlete and a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant. Her arsenal of cat-inspired weapons included her high-powered Kitty-car, he Cat-plane, Cat-boat, and most importantly, her Cat-o'-nine-tails, a multi-tipped bullwhip with which she was an expert.

Despite her long career of crime, the Catwoman never committed murder, a fact of which she was justly proud.
