History:
Doctor Occult, the "Ghost Detective," is a private investigator who specializes in cases involving the supernatural, and whose recorded exploits began in 1935. Although Doctor Occult usually wore normal clothing, a group of mystics known as the Seven once gave him a costume to wear into battle against the evil alien Koth. Hence, Doctor Occult was the first costumed hero of the Golden Age.

Doctor Occult often provided assistance to Detective Captain Ellsworth of the police department of his home city on cases involving the paranormal.

Doctor Occult was sometimes aided by his close friend Rose Psychic, who, like himself, possessed certain mystical abilities. (The names Doctor Occult and Rose Psychic are presumably pseudonyms. Their real names remain unrevealed.)

In the course of his known career Doctor Occult battled vampires, ghosts, zombies, mystical cults, and various criminal scientists who used methods that were actually or apparently supernatural.

Doctor Occult’s last recorded adventure ended with him and Rose Psychic journeying through the astral plane, intending to reemerge on Earth at the headquarters of the leader of a criminal protection racket. No further events in the life of Doctor Occult have yet been recorded, and his present whereabouts are unknown.

Powers:
Although Doctor Occult prefers to rely on his sharp analytical mind in his cases, he also possesses various apparently mystical abilities. He can journey rapidly from place to place on Earth by projecting himself onto the astral plane, traveling through it, and then reemerging on Earth a short time later. Doctor Occult can use this means to travel to a place the location of which he does not know, and he can transport another person with him through the astral plane. Doctor Occult’s physical body shifts into astral form when he is on the astral plane. He can also shift from physical to astral form while on Earth, enabling him to observe events invisibly. Doctor Occult also possesses mystical hypnotic abilities with which he can force someone to obey him. Rose Psychic also possesses all of these abilities.

In addition, Doctor Occult can create illusions and possesses telekinetic powers. He may also have other powers that remain unknown.

Doctor Occult carries a "mystic symbol" resembling a small cross within a circle except for the handle. With it he can repel and exorcise various supernatural beings, and even repel certain natural forms of energy.

Doctor Occult has also invented a psionically sensitive device that can detect and pinpoint the source of evil thought waves.

The Seven gave Doctor Occult a sword with unspecified mystic powers. They also sent him to find a belt with magical powers he activated by pressing its buttons. It enabled him to fly and to turn people to stone. Its other powers are unknown.
