Wanderers
Wanderers

Name: Wanderers
Universe: Post-Crisis
First Appearance: Wanderers #1

History:
The Wanderers were a group of heroes who banded together during the early part of the 30th century, before the Legion of Super-Heroes became the galaxy's predominant super-team. They were interstellar legends despite their mysterious origins, and numbered seven strong: Quantum Queen, Elvo, Immorto, Dartalg, Psyche, Orintho, and Celebrand, their leader, was the only Wanderer who possessed no natural super-power.

After hearing tales of the Wanderers for years, the Legionnaires finally met them in the flesh, on a distant asteroid. In a regal ceremony, Celebrand vowed eternal friendship between the teams, bu their pledge to pursue common goals of peace and justice was thwarted when the Wanderers accidentally passed through the Nefar Nebula, the radiation of which caused temporary insanity in the form of character reversal. Acting as criminals, the Wanderers stole a priceless collection of powerful jewels and battled the Legion to a near standstill before being apprehended.

Once in the Legion's custody, the effects of the Nebula wore off, and the Wanderers restored peace with the Legionnaires. From that day on, the Wanderers were welcome guests at many Legion ceremonies and weddings and helped the Super-Heroes in their war against Darkseid before embarking on an exploration of several civilizations who had learned the science of cloning. They were out to combat cloning's unforeseen and horrifying hazardous side effect: the offspring of these clones possessed unstable DNA and invariably mutated into destructive killing machines.

During the course of their investigation, the Wanderers disappeared for many years until Clonus, a member of the race known as the Controllers, found them... murdered. As a master of the science of cloning, however, he was able to create new bodies for all the Wanderers save Celebrand, who was beyond restoration. Given a new life, several of the Wanderers opted to change their names to reflect their altered appearance: Dartalg to Dartalon, Elvo to Elvar, Immorto to Re-Animage, and Orintho to Aviax. Together with Quantum Queen and Psyche, they solved the mystery of their murders when they found that they had been killed by the mutated children of Clonus and his cloned human wife.

In recognition of their good deeds, the Wanderers were appointed as official peace-keeping agents of the United Planets and carried out several task for them. At the end of their final U.P. mission, the Wanderers entered an enigmatic space warp; where it took them remains a mystery to this day, as does the fate of Celebrand, whom Elvar was in the process of cloning during that last case.

Powers:
Aviax, the Wanderer's pilot and navigator, possesses the ability to transform himself into any creature of flight he can imagine. He must take care, however, not to put inordinate stress on his fragile skeletal structure.

Dartalon, resentful of his freakish form, is covered with sharp quills that he can project at will. Dartalon also keeps in his quiver several barbs treated with poisons, sedatives, and explosives.

Elvar, a master swordsman whose weapon can cut steel effortlessly, has tremendous speed and agility. He is also the only Wanderer who can claim to be a true friend to the embittered Dartalon.

Psyche, the Mistress of Emotions, can fire powerful brain blasts of mental energy. She can also manipulate the feelings of those around her and project selected emotions onto them. This power, however, makes her emotionally unstable in the presence of strong personalities.

Quantum Queen is undeniably the most powerful Wanderer, possessing the ability to command any form of electromagnetic radiation. This allows her to, among other things, fly, become invisible, wield last and heat beams, and channel hard radiation.

Re-Animage is immortal and can recover from any life-threatening wound as a result of the special microscopic parasites that live within his nervous system. In addition, he can temporarily transfer this reanimating energy to others, enabling him to revive dead bodies provided he can act before serious brain cell deterioration sets in.
