History:
They survived the sinking of Atlantis, but life in the underwater domed city was not to their liking. They were the Idylists--a society of pacifists who lived in an underwater valley far from the city of their birth.

Ruled by kindly King Thar and his beautiful Queen Berra, they were content until madness struck Thar. He assembled a military arsenal which would destroy whoever opposed him, so he could then rule all, including fabled Atlantis itself.

But the Idylists revolted and, against every belief they held dear, killed King Thar and banished his pregnant queen.

Soon after, Berra gave birth to a son, Garth, who suffered a bizarre mutation known only to Atlanteans. Born with purple eyes and thought to be inferior, young Garth was exiled from Atlantis.

Little is known of Garth's early life until he was found by Aquaman, who quickly became both Garth's friend and mentor.

Garth was a charter member of the first Teen Titans and soon met Tula, with whom he quickly fell in love.

Garth and Tula now live in Atlantis, and occasionally give aid to the New Teen Titans.

Powers:
Like all Atlanteans, Garth can breathe underwater, withstands its tremendous undersea pressures, swims at extreme speeds, and telepathically communicates with underwater life.

Aqualad can remain out of water for only one hour.
