History:
Kimiyo Hoshi was a scientist in Japan, observing the cosmic chaos that was the result of the so-called Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Not realizing that what was soon to happen was engineered by the enigmatic being known as the Monitor, Hoshi was observing the star Vega, a great red giant in our galaxy, when she noticed the star erupt with fiery energy. The force shot through the darkness of space, slipping through a cosmic warp, and struck the observing astronomer.

As a result of this interstellar accident, Hoshi was changed. Her body was no imbued with the power of starlight.

Powers:
Doctor Light now possesses the star-born power over light itself. Hoshi can create any light on any wavelength, from harmless illumination to deadly laser blasts.

Converting light into energy, Doctor Light can soar through the skies. With her powers she can perform delicate surgery or destroy an invading fleet of attackers. Light's power is as great as Hoshi's mind will allow it to be. Her only weakness is the dark, in which she cannot operate.
