History:
Arani Caulder was a poor young Indian girl who stumbled into a Calcutta hospital and collapsed into the arms of Niles Caulder, a young doctor on his first assignment. Attracted to the beautiful young woman, Caulder nursed her back to health, and the two fell in love in the process.

Summoned back to America, and too poor to take Arani with him, Caulder refused to return her to the filthy streets. Instead, he took her to a monastery hidden deep in the hills, where a sect of holy men tutored her, teaching her to look into her own soul.

As the years passed, the holy men became aware that Arani was born a mutant, possessed of great power that had laid dormant within her since infancy. The holy men taught Arani to unleash and control this power, which enabled her to generate seething heat with her left hand and blistering cold with her right.

At last, as Arani reached adulthood, Niles Caulder returned to her, explaining that a mysterious benefactor had been funding Caulder's efforts to find the secret of immortality. Not trusting this unknown resource, Caulder had kept secret the fact that he had already succeeded in his efforts.

Caulder asked Arani to marry him and, as a wedding gift, allowed her to drink the essence of immortality, so that she could remain young and beautiful forever.

Fearing reprisals from his unknown benefactor, Caulder left his new bride behind in India as he returned once more to America. In the years that followed, Arani remained in seclusion, until Caulder and the misfits he had banded together as his Doom Patrol were slain by two of their foes.

Unable to stand idly by any longer, Arani journeyed to America to carry on her late husband's battle against evil and injustice, taking the code name Celsius to describe her powers of heat and cold, and gathering together her own band of misfits to form the new Doom Patrol.

Powers:
A superb athlete and superior martial artist as a result of her monastery training, Celsius also possesses the mutant ability to completely control her body's inner temperature, enabling her to generate bolts of virtually volcanic heat with her left hand and Arctic cold with her right hand. These thermal bolts require intense concentration on her part, and can leave her temporarily exhausted, depending on their intensity.
