History:
Ten years ago Belle Haney Bonner was attempting to juggle a full-time career as a computer designer with the care of her young son and daughter. To this end she had transformed the family garage into a computer workshop. One day, while Belle was working in her garage lab, her children, Blythe and Barney, accidentally touched two live wires together, causing an accident that poured thousands of volts of pure electricity through the youngsters, even as Belle tried to protect them.

Though the children were apparently unharmed by the electricity, Frank Bonner blamed his wife for the accident and threw her out of their house. Belle Haney Bonner did not see her children again for almost 10 years. Instead, she resumed using her maiden name and took a job at Concordance Research, while Frank began to drink heavily to overcome his grief.

The two children grew to hate their mother, believing she had deserted them. When they discovered the long-term effects of their childhood accident had given them super-powers, they created the costumed identities of Bug and Byte and set out to destroy the mother they thought had betrayed them. This attempted murder was thwarted by the nuclear-powered duo of Firestorm and Firehawk, though during her escape, Byte attacked her own super-powered brother, leaving him mentally unbalanced. Ironically, this family tragedy brought Belle and Frank Bonner together again.

Powers:
As a result of their childhood accident, Blythe Bonner, as Byte, is able to transform herself into pure electricity, flowing through power lines as a means of transportation and creating giant images of this same electricity, such as electrical hands. She can be shorted out by contact with water or stopped completely if the power source through which she is flowing is turned off.

Barney Bonner, as Bug, can become part of any computer system that he can reach by phone line. While inhabiting the computer, Bug can force it to generate bolts of pure electrical energy. He can also transform other people into electrical impulses that he then absorbs into the system.

Neither Bug nor Byte is particularly athletic, and neither are skilled hand-to-hand combatants.
