History:
Dan Cassidy was a Hollywood whiz kid, a double-threat special effects artist, and a master stuntman. While on location in the Caribbean with director Marla Bloom's film crew to make the movie Blue Devil, he tested his greatest creation, the super-powered Blue Devil costume.
Meanwhile, two actors from the company, leading man, Wayne Tarrant, and leading lady, Sharon Scott, investigated ancient ruins on the island. There they discovered a mystic artifact which unleashed a monstrous demon, Nebiros.
In pursuit of Wayne and Sharon, Nebiros attacked the entire film company. Dan Cassidy was forced to use the Blue Devil stunt suit as a weapon to defend his friends from the monster.
During the course of battle, Cassidy was blasted by mystic beams of energy from Nebiros's eyes. He soon recovered, and at last defeated the demon, driving it back into its own realm and sealing the portal between worlds.
But upon returning to his trailer, Cassidy discovered that the demon's mystic blasts had grafted the Blue Devil costume to him and that he was, now and forevermore, a living, breathing Blue Devil.
Horrified at first by the prospect, Cassidy sought to free himself from the costume, even seeking Nebiros's aid. All this came to naught, and at last he reconciled himself to his new physical aspect and even began to enjoy it.
Described as a "weirdness magnet" by his friend cinematographer Norm Paxton, Cassidy found his new life plagued by aliens, robots, mystical entities, super-heroes, and super-villains. Despite his protestations to the contrary, Dan found himself acting more and more like a super-hero – and is in fact now considered to be one by the world at large.
Powers:
The Blue Devil suit was designed to enhance all the physical attributes of Dan Cassidy, who already was a superb athlete with extensive training in martial arts and acrobatics. The amazing servo-motors of the costume increased his strength by a factor of at least twenty (and possibly much more after the infusion of mystic energies). The Blue Devil can leap to great heights and cover a hundred yards in a single bound. His armored "suit" renders him impervious to most small arms fire, and he appears to possess a mystic "healing factor" that mends even severe wounds in moments. Built into the costume are devices that enhance his hearing, give him night-vision, and allow him to breathe underwater for short periods of time.
Also incorporated into the costume are a number of pyrotechnic lighting and explosive effects, and Cassidy can redesign these to increase their effectiveness.
The Blue Devil's principal weapon is his rocket-trident, a device that can propel him through the air to heights and across distances far beyond those he can achieve with the suit alone. The trident can emit flames, electrical discharges, or rocket blasts from its tail. It is capable of independent flight, and can be controlled by special relays built into the costume.
