Comments:
The exact time period in which Strong Bow's adventures take place is undetermined. His entry in Who's Who indicates that Strong Bow was active before Europeans began to colonize North America beginning with Columbus in 1492. However, from his very first adventure in this story, horses are used. The horse was not introduced to the continent until the 1500s, after colonization by Europeans began.

Synopsis:
Warriors from the Blackfeet tribe encounter a lone Crow brave on the Montana plains. The Crow, named Wovoka, tries to flee to warn his people, but he is captured. Suddenly a wandering stranger riding a buffalo rides to his rescue. The stranger is Strong Bow, the self-proclaimed sole survivor of another tribe from beyond the Misty Mountains.

Strong Bow and Wovoka return to the Crow village and warn them of the coming attack by Chief Prancing Horse and the Blackfeet. When the attackers arrive, Strong Bow challenges Prancing Horse to single combat and wins. As a result, he demands that the Blackfeet return home.

That night, the treacherous Blackfeet return to the Crow village and abduct their chief, Tall Tree. Strong Bow commands a giant elk to carry him in pursuit of Tall Tree. He rescues the chief and takes him back to the village. He then lures the Blackfeet into Spirit Valley, were the Crow warriors cause landslides to block off each end. With the Blackfeet finally trapped, Strong Bow again demands peace. He also ensures that Chief Prancing Horse is exiled until such time as he becomes peaceful.
