Synopsis:
In the California village of Hawk Hill, Don Caballero works as a legendary sword fighting instructor. Ricardo Vallejo comes to him for training after the wealthy Carlo Marrillo has challenged him to a duel. Within a week, Caballero instructs his eager student on the basics of swordplay. He is then scheduled to watch the duel the following day.

The next morning, Caballero learns that Vallejo was killed the previous night. Marrillo claims that Vallejo demanded to fight early. However, Caballero sees that Vallejo died with his boots on, despite instructions to fight barefoot. Caballero suspects murder.

The master swordsman follows Marrillo and learns that the family Vallejo's fiancee Luisa Alvarada owns a mine with gold deposits. The mine was to be her dowry. By eliminating Vallejo, Marrillo hopes to marry Alvadrada to gain the dowry and prop up his failing fortune. Caballero engages and defeats Marrillo in a sword fight and gains a confession to the murder.
