Comments:
This is a prose story with illustrations.

Synopsis:
Alfred is kidnapped in from of Bruce Wayne's home. Bruce is also attacked, but he could not fight back without exposing his secret identity. Once Bruce recovers, he investigates the kidnapping. He determines that Alfred is the descendant of a possible traitor to the corrupt Order of the Black Rose. Acton Haliburt has sworn vengeance upon the traitor's family. Batman learns that the other suspected traitor's descendant Randall Maxwellian was also kidnapped.

Dr. Anders Cawthen is in the process of translating a cipher that will reveal the traitor. He was hired by Haliburt, whom Batman tracks down. Batman then saves Alfred and Maxwellian. Cawthen completes his translation, but Haliburt is denied the truth. Only Batman was able to learn the name of the traitor. A secret which he does not share.
