Chapter 3:"Transfigurations"

This story begins approximately one year after the sinking of Poseidonis. Chapter 3 occurs three years later.

Albart, the first keeper of the chronicles, is revealed to have committed suicide after the sinking of Poseidonis.

Synopsis:
One year after the sinking of Poseidonis, the Atlantean people remain trapped in the sunken city. Violence erupts and dissension between Orin and his brother reaches a point where Shalako decides to leave. Shalako leads his followers through underground tunnels to another city of Atlantis which was claimed by the sea years earlier, Tritonis. This city is now uninhabited because it lacked a protective dome. Shalako sacrifices his own wife to the dark gods who create a dome above Tritonis, allowing his people to survive.

Three years later, Orin and his people remain trapped and depressed. A scientist named Thorne creates a serum to grant the Atlanteans the ability to breathe underwater. Orin is the first to receive the serum and prove its viability. The rest of the residents of Poseidonis soon follow, and they are freed from domed captivity.

Orin brings the serum to Tritonis. Shalako refuses it, but his people go against him and take it anyway. Angry at the betrayal of his followers, Shalako prays to the dark gods and curses them. The next day, the people of Tritonis have their legs turned into reptile skin. Shalako blames the serum. His son Dardanus witnessed his father cursing the people and learned of his mother's murder. He tells the people the truth, and the people murder Shalako and his entire family except Dardanus, who escapes.
