Chapter 11:"Birthrite"

This story takes place across four time periods. The first is continued directly from Atlantis Chronicles #6 and details the defeat of Honsu's invasion force. The second time period which serves to frame the invasion story takes place thousands of years later. It reveals that the great priest is an aged Haumond. The third time period shows the ships of Columbus, and their encounter with a resident of Tritonis. The final time period details the last of the Poseidonis monarchs Trevis and his wife Atlanna. Atlan returns to father a child with Atlanna, whom will one day become Aquaman.

A family tree showing the lineage of Atlantean rulers appears following this story.

Synopsis:
Despite his defeat at the hands of the Egyptians, King Honsu continues is attempt to conquer the surface world. When he reaches the Greek city state of Athens, his weakened forces are barely able to continue. In order to put a quick end to the conflict Honsu volunteers Kraken as a champion to battle a Greek champion in one-on-one conflict. A champion steps forward. Although outmatched by Kraken's sheer combat prowess, the undersized warrior proves to be a formidable adversary who eventually kills the Atlantean. When the battle is over, the Greek champion removes his helmet revealing himself to be Haumond. Honsu then leads his remaining forces back to Atlantis in defeat.

Haumond stays on the surface where lives several hundred more years as a great priest. His brother Atlan, still youthful in appearance due to a Atlantean serum, visits Haumond on his deathbed and carries his body back to sea.

Over the course of the centuries surface sailors have occasionally spotted Atlanteans, believing them to be mermaids.

Some more time passes until the reign of King Trevis and Queen Atlanna. Trevis is unable to produce an heir to the throne. He is threatened by a faction of Shalako worshippers led by Kalandro. Atlanna is visited one night by Atlan. She goes to him willing and together they create a son, Orin. However, the son is born with blond hair, the legendary sign of Kordax. Trevis abandons the boy on a reef outside the city, then takes his own life. Atlanna, who is unofficially the last of Keeper of the Chronicles, never finds her son. Kalandro leads an uprising, seizing control of Atlantis from the monarchy. But the boy Orin survives, possessing the power of command sea life. He will eventually grow up to become Aquaman and the future King of Atlantis.
