Comments:
This story shows the fall of Camelot.
The Shining Knight is said to be a frequent time traveler. He has returned to Camelot after his adventures in the 20th Century.
Etrigan takes the human form of Jason Blood in this story; presumedly for the first time.
Merlin makes veiled references to Crisis on Infinite Earths in this story. He tells Swamp Thing, "...at some point during your era, a sort of convergence of the world's seems to have occurred. And all the endless possibilities were boiled down into a single reality, which is much easier to set up a direct channel to." Swamp Thing responds, "Hmmm. An interesting theory. Others I have encountered... have espoused it as well. But if there were... a Crisis on such a scale... I'm sure I would remember it."
Synopsis:
Swamp Thing is found in the time stream by Sir Justin, the Shining Knight. Justin brings Swamp Thing to Camelot and plants him in the garden. Swamp Thing then learns from Merlin, that Camelot is besieged by the evil forces of Morgaine Le Fay. Meanwhile, King Arthur has been brought to madness.
Merlin urges Swamp Thing to save Camelot. The elemental uses his powers to lift the very ground under the castle into the sky. In doing so, half of the attacking forces are destroyed. The Shining Knight then arrives after retrieving the Holy Grail. Arthur pulls a piece of amber out of the cup. The presence of the amber causes Swamp Thing to resume his travel back in time. Without him to hold up Camelot, the castle crashes to the ground and is destroyed.
Sir Justin then travels back to the 20th century to deliver a message to Abby. He informs her that Swamp Thing is still alive and vows to search for him through the time stream.
