Famous First Edition (Series "F")
Famous First Edition was a Tabloid-Sized series that began as an offshoot of Limited Collectors' Edition. The oversized tabloid books reprinted rare Golden Age comics in their entirety with a stiff outer cover for $1.
The first three issues of Famous First Edition were included as part of Series "C". They reprinted Action Comics #1, Detective Comics #27, and Sensation Comics #1. With the fourth issue (reprinting Whiz Comics #2), the series was separated from Series "C" and given its own lettered numbering system beginning with #F-4.
Four additional Famous First Editions appeared from 1974 to 1975, ending with #F-8. Additionally, the first 6 issues were published in hardback. These rare
editions had the stiff outer cover replaced by a hardback cover and dust jacket. Famous First Edition #F-7 and #F-8 were not published in hardback.
In 1978, DC published one more Famous First Edition, collecting the first issue of Superman to coincide with the release of Superman the Movie. This issue once again was part of Series "C" and was priced at $2.
