Comments:
This story relates the post-Crisis origin of both the original Black Canary and her daughter. This tale differs from the Earth-1 version in several respects; notably there was no cross-over from Earth-2 to Earth-1.
The original Black Canary dies in this story.
Synopsis:
Dinah Lance rushes to the deathbed of her mother in Gotham City. Green Lantern helps to carry Dinah and Oliver Queen across the country quickly.
Dinah's mother was Dinah Drake. Her father Richard trained her as a child and wanted her to join the police force. In 1947, Dinah Drake proved herself by saving her father and Larry Lance when they were under fire. However, she was unable to earn a spot on the police force because she was a woman.
After the death of her father, Dinah Drake became the Black Canary. At first, she posed as a criminal, before finally revealing her true heroic intentions. She eventually met Johnny Thunder and replaced him in the Justice Society. Along the way, she rekindled a connection with Larry Lance, now a private detective.
After the JSA disbanded in 1951, Black Canary retired. Dinah married Larry and joined his detective firm. Sometime later, she reconnected with her associates in the JSA following Alan Scott's fateful encounter with the Reaper. The revival did not last however. Dinah retired again and gave birth to Dinah Laurel Lance.
The younger Dinah Lance grew up around the retired JSA members. When she became old enough, she sought out Ted Grant for training. She also discovered a new super power, a canary cry. Dinah then joined in the formation of the Justice League where she met Oliver Queen.
Back in the hospital, Dinah Drake Lance is greeted by the Spectre. He allows her to make peace with her daughter before leading her into the afterlife.
