Synopsis:
Animal Man steps out his front door into limbo. Limbo is inhabited by characters which have not appeared in stories recently. Merryman of the Inferior Five leads Buddy to a dying monkey. He tells Animal Man to find the City of Formation.

Animal Man passes through limbo on a journey that lasts years. He carries the monkey and meets many characters only to find himself right back at his house which is now dilapidated. His cat and dog have died while he was away. The monkey is also dead. In the monkey's hand is a paper. Buddy reads it and discovers it is the script of his journey across limbo. From the script he cuts a paper key. Using the key, Buddy opens a door which leads to a house. Inside is Grant Morrison.
