This story is continued from Batman #443.

Synopsis:
Batman watches criminal Monte Marr burst into flames after revealing the name Crimesmith. Using the dead man's wallet and clues from the chemicals involved in his death, Batman compiles a list of possible suspects. Jeffrey Fraser's name is on the list. Batman then compares a printout made from Fraser's printer with one found in Marr's wallet to confirm that Fraser is the Crimesmith.

Batman tracks down the Crimesmith's hideout. He then survives a variety of death traps. The building catches fire. Fraser's partner Maya shoots him and leaves him for dead. Batman is unable to save Fraser, as the building is destroyed.
