Comments:
This story takes place on April 16, 1977. It establishes that while Morgan has been in Skartaris, eight years have passed on the surface world due to the differences in the behavior of time.

Morgan learns that in surface time, that he is 51 years old, meaning that he was born in 1926. He was 43 when his plane entered Skartaris in 1969.

Synopsis:
Travis Morgan has returned to Earth's surface world after a ride on an Atlantean shuttle. He emerges from a cave inside Machu Picchu overlooking the camp of an archaeological expedition investigating the Inca civilization. Still weary from the head injury he received inside the shuttle, Morgan stumbles into the camp and enters the tent of red-headed Russian archaeologist Mariah Romanova before completely collapsing.

When he regains consciousness, Morgan is surrounded by the leaders of the international group of archaeologists led by George Lakely of Harvard. The professors have learned Morgan's name from his dog tags and get him to tell them his story about Skartaris. The scientists then explain that they have found evidence of an ancient civilization which predates the Incas. Morgan helps them translate some of the inscription.

After uncovering a giant cat state, the archaeologists hear a helicopter. They explain to Morgan, that they contacted the U.S. Air Force when they found him. Morgan is immediately alarmed because he knows his disappearance will have caused the military to believe he defected to the Russians.
CIA operatives emerge from the chopper to take custody of Morgan. Then sunlight strikes the cat statue causing it to become animated. It strikes down everyone in its path until Morgan blocks the sunlight from its eyes. The statue then collapses into rubble. The CIA men are all wounded, so Morgan can escape. He returns to the Atlantean shuttle with Mariah who elects to join in his adventure.

When the shuttle returns to the command center from which Morgan departed, the Warlord expects to find Tara waiting for him. However, the station has been abandoned. Cobwebs on his helmet indicate that while only a day passed for Morgan on his return to the surface, significantly more time has passed in the world of Skartaris.
