This story takes place when Arak was a boy.

Synopsis:
Bright-Sky-After-Storm joins his grandfather, the tribal shaman of the Quontaukan, when he is summoned to help save the life of Running Fawn, a young girl who has become ill. The shaman performs the healing rituals, but they fail to restore the girl to health. When she dies, Bright-Sky is saddened. He decides he wants to become a warrior instead of a shaman. His grandfather believes that the boy may not have a choice in the matter.
