Comments:
This story is continued from the first story of Action Comics #386.

Lex Luthor's appearance in this story is depicted as an old man in the year 2000. However, Superman's return to the 20th Century at the conclusion of the story invalidates the timeline in which this appearance of Lex exists.

Synopsis:
In the distant future, Superman is still alive. He is blocked from returning to the 20th Century by the Time Trapper. Earth has become lifeless during this future, so the Man of Steel rectifies the situation by making the planet habitable once again. After Superman completes the task, a mechanical device, created millennia earlier by Lex Luthor, finds the Man of Steel and kills him.

Superman's lifeless body is quickly discovered and taken to a robot healer who restores him to life. Superman is angry because he wanted to die. He then tries to kill him in the tail of the Magnor Comet. Instead, the comet's special properties cause Superman to return to the era of his natural lifetime.
