Part 2: "Mr. Mxyzptlk's Election Magic"
Part 3: "The Super-Election"
Perry White temporarily becomes a senator in this story.
Synopsis:
Superman announces his candidacy for United States senator. He makes a variety of public appearance earning the admiration of the voting public. Only Lois Lane seems unimpressed. She thinks the Man of Steel is too much of a ham and decides to run against him.
Lois is defeated soundly in the primary party elections. Mr. Mxyzptlk appears and agrees to help Lois campaign as a write-in candidate. With the imp's help, Lois slowly begins cutting into Superman's lead in the polls.
Acting as Superman's campaign manager, Jimmy Olsen learns that Mxyzptlk is helping Lois. He tells Superman who admits that he wants Lois to win and knows about Mxyzptlk. The entire campaign was designed to keep the imp busy. Lois then helps Superman trick Mxyzptlk into saying his name backwards.
Once the imp is gone, both candidates are disqualified from the election. Superman wasn't born in the state, and Lois isn't old enough to run for office. Since they were the only candidates, the governor appoints Perry White as temporary senator until another election can be held. Perry then appoints Van Benson, a pulitzer prize winner, as editor of the Daily Planet to replace him.
