Comments:
This story was intended as the first meeting between Lex Luthor and Superboy as indicated by Superboy's musing about Luthor possibly becoming his arch-enemy. However, it does not rule out the fact that the two may have met previously. This story must therefore take place soon after the first story of Adventure Comics #271 in which Luthor first turns to crime.
Luthor appears as an adult in this story. The first story of Adventure Comics #271 reveals that Luthor is approximately the same age as Superboy, so this story is anachronistic. One possible explanation is that Luthor may only appear to be an adult in this story, but is actually still in his teens.
Synopsis:
A new super-hero calling himself Amazing Man arrives in the community of Hadley, which is near Smallville. Haldey is happy to have their own super-hero and embraces Amazing Man as their own. Amazing Man uses scientific instruments to help fight crime and perform rescues. Superboy is soon relegated to backpage news in the Haldey newspapers.
Superboy continues to visit Hadley on patrols, but the citizens believe the Boy of Steel has become jealous of Amazing Man. Superboy even begins damaging Amazing Man's inventions. Superboy then explains to the townspeople that Amazing Man had planned to rob the town, by first gaining their loyalty. Superboy's proves his case, then apprehends Amazing Man and his gang. Amazing Man is revealed to be Lex Luthor and sent to prison.
