Synopsis:
Crime boss Jingles Bailey creates a device that blocks sound waves. He uses the device on Smallville, then sends his gang to committ crimes. Though alarms are sounded and shouts arise, no one including Superboy can hear them. Superboy tries a variety of methods to communicate with people to warn them of danger, but Bailey continues to get away with his crimes.

Superboy finally creates a dense fog in town which prevents the crooks from seeing. Bailey temporarily shuts off his machine to issue a warning to Superboy. While the machine is off, Superboy is able to use his super-hearing to track down Jingles from the sound of his lucky coins. The machine is then destroyed, and the gang is apprehended.
