Comments:
This story is from the "Challenger Casebook" and is an untold story. Since the Challengers are in their old purple uniforms it must take place prior to the second story of Challengers of the Unknown #43.

Synopsis:
The Challengers are given a vial containing a newly discovered substance for delivery to a lab in Washington. On the journey, their plane mysteriously runs low on fuel forcing them to land in the desert. They seek help in a nearby mining town where Ace, Rocky, and Red are captured by a man calling himself Mr. Tic-Tac-Toe. The Challs are then tied to a giant gameboard. Prof is ordered to turn over the vial to save his friends. He tricks the crook by substituting tear gas in the vial. The Challs capture the villain, who turns out to be a lab assistant. The new substance can create diamonds and is extremely valuable motivating the attempt to steal it.
