Synopsis:
Rip Hunter is convinced by Professor Deering to take the Time Sphere into the past to learn the origins of a magic tapestry which comes to life. Upon their arrival in the past, the professor and the team witness Halagu, a rival of Kublai Khan, perform magic. The professor is convinced it is genuine and offers the mongol guns in exchange for his knowledge of magic.
Rip learns that both Halagu’s magic and the magic tapestry were faked. The professor has double-crossed the team and turned them over to the mongols. Rip escapes and seeks the aid of Kublai Khan, claiming to be a friend of Marco Polo, the king’s advisor.
Kublai does not believe that Halagu is planning to invade, and when Marco Polo returns, he exposes Rip’s lie. Rip is able to get proof of Halagu’s treachery and finally get the aid of the Khan. Using his future knowledge of science, Rip is able to stop the invasion, before returning to his own time with the rogue professor.
