Synopsis:
The Atom travels in the Time Pool to 18th century London to view the birthday party of Professor Hyatt's ancestor, Theodore. The Atom finds Theodore upset because the change from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar in 1752 has eliminated September 3rd, the boy's birthday. Atom then watches as Theodore father is robbed by a street gang. He attempts to stop the crooks, but the leader escapes with Hyatt's money.

The Atom accompanies Hyatt to visit Judge Henry Fielding to explain the robbery. The Atom proposes using deduction to solve the case. Atom tracks down the gang leader and recovers the money. Both the judge and his blind brother John are impressed with the idea of using detectives to solve crimes. When Atom returns to his own time, he remembers that John Fielding founded the first organized detective force.
