Comments:
This story is continued from Animal Man #22 and continues in Animal Man #24.

Synopsis:
Animal Man is stuck in the 1960s after his failed attempt to save his family using time travel. He is introduced to several immortals including the Phantom Stranger, Jason Blood, and the Immortal Man. He has given up on life. Blood and the Immortal Man debate the qualities of life and death. Eventually, Animal Man regains a measure of resolve and returns to his own time.

While Animal Man was away, the Psycho Pirate has began to remember the worlds and people of the multiverse which never exisited. As a result many of the people who died during the Crisis on Infinite Earths begin appearing as phantoms in Arkham Asylum. The aliens who gave Animal Man his powers bring Animal Man to Arkham, so that he can put things right.
