Comments:
Captain X is revealed to be Dane's father in this story. His name is revealed as John Payton. He has been trapped in a Nazi submarine for years due to effects of molecular alteration.

However, Dane's father had previously appeared in Showcase #27 and the first story of Showcase #28. His given name in those stories was John Dorrance. To reconcile the inconsistent portrayals, it should be assumed that Payton is his middle name. Also, despite Dane's comment that he has only a "kid" when his father disappeared, John's encounter with the Nazis must have taken place after his last appearance in the first story of Showcase #28.

Synopsis:
The Sea Devils attend a meeting of the International Sea Devils. Sikki, a member from India, reports an undersea war between a monster called the Man-Fish and Captain X, commander of a hammerhead shaped submarine.

The Sea Devils split up to find the warring parties. They find Captain X, who attacks them, destroying their new boat. Then they are captured in a net. The Man-Fish rescues them and explains that Captain X is responsible for his monsterous condition.

Dane leaves the others to scout Captain X's sub. He is taken aboard and learns that Captain X is really his father. Dane and his dad then try to stop the Man-Fish from retrieving the Coral Jade and awakening a sea creature called the Horro.

Dane's efforts fail, and the Horro is awakened. Dane finds himself at odds with the other Sea Devils who have taken the side of the Man-Fish. When they combine forces, the Sea Devils and Captain X defeat the Horro. Dane's father remains trapped inside the sub, while the Man-Fish vows to continue his war with Captain X.
