Sheriff Walt Trigger returns to Rocky City after spending two weeks out of town. He finds that all the townspeople have been replaced by men he does not know. They all claim to have lived in Rocky City for years. When Walt looks up his brother Wayne, his twin claims to not remember him either. Walt walks away confused.
In the shop Wayne recall how Jess Larsen and his gang took over the town. Larsen is holding the real townspeople prisoner. He forced Wayne to help fool Walt. The purpose of the ruse is to trick prospector Jeb Hawkins into giving up the location of his newly discovered gold mine.
Outside the store, Walt realizes that his brother used a green bandanna to signal him. Suspecting trouble, Walt returns to the store just as Hawkins arrives. Together the two brothers protect Hawkins and retake the town. Hawkins then reveals the secret location of his claim and agrees to share his profits with Rocky City.
