Commissioner Gordon is disgraced when a newspaper article surfaces revealing his great-grandfather led a gang of bandits. Batman and Robin are sent back in time by Professor Nichols to learn the story of river boat captain John Gordon.
Batman and Robin get a job as entertainers aboard Gordon's showboat. At each stop the boat makes, a gang of bandits strike. Batman stops a train robbery attempt and recognizes Gordon as one of the bandits. Gordon is arrested, but further investigation reveals Gordon was impersonated. Batman discovers the real bandit leader, show director Baird Hawes. Gordon is cleared, and Batman returns to the present. The Caped Crusader is then able to locate proof of Gordon's innocence, restoring Commissioner Gordon's family name.
