Synopsis:
Small-time crook Rand Garrow is sent to prison by Batman. While behind bars, Garrow learns how to build and design machines. After he is paroled, Garrow uses his new knowledge to construct machines for crime. He then sells the machines to other criminals, using the alias the Crimesmith.

Batman and Robin are able to apprehend Patch Parsons, one of the crooks using the Crimesmith’s new weapons. They are unable to learn the secret location of the Crimesmith’s headquarters from Parsons, but they do obtain some clues.

When the Crimesmith’s men steal several old movie films, Batman begins piecing together the villain’s plan. Using the films, the Crimesmith starts a panic by broadcasting movie clips of robots attacking the city. Batman deduces where the Crimesmith is by locating his transmitter. Batman then sends Garrow back to prison.
