Synopsis:
Jean Loring tells her boyfriend, Ray Palmer, about her friend Alma whose fiance is suspected of committing several robberies. The stolen items have all disappeared when Jim Barnes was nearby. Ray investigates as the Atom, locating Barnes at a chess tournament. Atom hides in a valuable chess set which is later rises into the air faster than the eye can see.

Unconscious aboard one of the chess pieces, Atom is taken by Greg Phillips, a newspaper writer who is responsible for the thefts. Phillips learned the secret of telekinesis from a dead scientist and has used his power to steal. Atom recovers, but Phillips spots him. The Mighty Mite is nearly killed by some poison gas, but he breaks free and captures Phillips. Barnes is cleared of wrongdoing and marries Alma.
