Comments:
This story is the first of many in which Green Lantern travels to the 58th century. He adopts the name Pol Manning as his secret identity for this time period.

Synopsis:
In the far future of the 58th century, a meeting of Solarites takes place to elect a new Solar Director. Chairman Dasor of the high council reveals that he has discovered an appropriate choice for the role via his timescope. That candidate is Green Lantern. They have found a way to bring him into the future and alter his memories so that he believes he is Pol Manning, a space-explorer from that time period. They believe that Green Lantern is the correct choice because he should be able to defeat the current threat to human civilization.

Green Lantern is snatched away from his time period while he is in battle with a giant orange sea creature. Upon his arrival, his mind is wiped and the new memories are implanted, including his feeling for Iona Vane, the secretary of the high council.

The threat that brought him here is brought to his attention. A race of gila monsters, called Zegors, have been hidden beneath the Earth for centuries. They have now evolved and are attacking human settlements. Green Lantern flys off to battle the monsters, but he finds that his ring is only equal to their powerful eye-blasts. He returns to the offices to continue his investigation.

There he learns that the eye-blasts shrink people to tiny size. A Zegor breaks into the office and shrinks Iona. In an attempt to save her, Green Lantern shrinks himself down to miniature size. There he finds the other soldiers shrunk by the Zegors. He restores himself to full size and traces the Zegors to their base, where an energy beam is found that is responsible for the shrinking. Green Lantern destorys the machine producing the beam and restores the people to normal. The restored humans now defeat the Zegors. Upon successful completion of his purpose, Chairman Dasor returns Green Lantern to his own time with no memory of the past events.

In his own time, Green Lantern battles the sea monster and discovers a yellow glow preventing him from affected it. He instead forms an acid that will dissolve the monster. He manages to defeat the monster and save a navy submarine. He is puzzled however as his ring needs charging, although it has only been one hour. He has no memory of his 23 hours in the future.
