Comments:
This story depicts the events which led to Travis Morgan finding Skartaris.
Synopsis:
Danny Maddox reflects on the events which led to his incarceration in a Soviet labor camp. As a school bully, he tormented other children until Travis Morgan beat him. After joining the Army during the Vietnam War, Danny set up a black market smuggling operation. In addition to stealing supplies, Danny conspired with the Russians by selling secrets. Travis Morgan once again threatened to end his operations when Morgan discovers the thefts.
Danny contacted his Soviet friends and arranged for Morgan to be sent on a spy mission that would end with him shot down over Russian airspace. However, Morgan evades the Soviet missiles. Maddox was unable to shoot Morgan down, and was sent to a Soviet labor camp for failing. Morgan's plane was damaged. He was forced to make a trip over the North Pole which resulted in his discovery of Skartaris.
