Comments:
This is the first appearance of the post-Crisis Power Girl. This story reveals that she has false memories of Krypton and the Earth-2 Superman that were implanted by her grandfather Arion. The Krypton and Superman that she remembers never existed in the post-Crisis universe. Unlike her Earth-2 counterpart, who is considered to be an entirely independent character, the post-Crisis Power Girl has an Atlantean heritage, not Kryptonian.

Synopsis:
Troubled by her memories of a Krypton which no longer exists in the new universe created in the wake of the Crisis on Infinite Earths, Power Girl returns to the Symbio-Ship which brought her to Earth. She is surprised when she discovers a message from Arion, the great Atlantean mage.

Arion explains that Kara is actually his granddaughter. He reveals that Garn Daanuth attempted to use Kara's body to escape his imprisonment in the Darkworld. With magic waning, Arion was forced to use a magic crystal to dispell Daanuth's control. As a result, Arion and Garn became locked in otherworldly combat, while Kara was sent into the future.

Arion then explains that Kara's memories of Krypton were illusionary in nature to conceal her true heritage. Her powers are the result of Arion's own genetic manipulations, Daanuth's possession, and a side-effect of the crystal.
