Comments:
This story takes place chronologically between Justice League #4 and Justice League #5.

The sentient cell in this story is absorbed by J'onn which has repercussions as seen in Martian Manhunter #1.

Synopsis:
Members of a Kord Industries research team land on an island in the South Pacific. Their minds are then overcome by an inhuman force. The team is then sent across the globe to recruit additional forces.

The Justice League receives an alert that four cities, Tokyo, Paris, Sydney, and Los Angeles have reports that large groups of the population have fallen under outside control. The League splits its forces to confront the threat. Booster Gold and Black Canary are overcome in Paris, Batman and Guy Gardner are defeated by Doctor Light in Tokyo, and Blue Beetle and Mister Miracle fall under control in Los Angeles.

In Sydney, Doctor Fate and the Martian Manhunter battle mind controlled children. Fate's host falls to the inhuman influence, but the Manhunter is immune. He puts on Fate's helmet and learns that a sentient cell is responsible. He chooses a direct approach and goes to the island to stop the source of the problem.

On the island, the sentient cell has brought many of its controlled subjects including the Justice League. J'onn fights his teammates who are under the cell's control. When the creature consolidates its influence into a giant creature, J'onn uses Fate's helmet to neutralize it. He then takes the cell into his own body which prevents it from reestablishing influence on humans. Everyone including the compromised League members are then restored to normal.
