Jason Todd's origin is revised in this story which takes place just after Dick Grayson and Batman dissolve their partnership.

This story continues in Batman #409.

Synopsis:
Robin, Dick Grayson, is shot by the Joker leaving the media to wonder if Robin is dead. Batman feels that he is to blame for putting Dick in harm's way. He decides to go solo again, but Dick makes plans to continue as an adventurer.

On the anniversary of his parents' death, Batman returns to crime alley. He visits a new school run by Faye Gunn to help the local boys. When he returns to the Batmobile, he finds that Jason Todd has stolen the tires. Batman tracks him down and brings Jason to Gunn's school.
