Synopsis:
John Stewart is the subject of a Senate committee investigation hearing after he is suspected of killing Carol Ferris and causing millions of dollars in property damage. There is insufficient evidence to indict John, but the nation of South Nambia wants to charge him with diamond theft. A crime which Hal Jordan acually perpetrated. John is extradited and is tortured while in prison.

Hal believes that he should help John, but he also wants to uphold the law. He visits Appa Ali Apsa on Oa for advice. He receives none, but he does retrieve John's lost power ring. He returns to Earth and delivers the ring to John.

Stewart is initially opposed to using the ring to escape, but he eventually does. He breaks out several political prisoners too including Dorian Alexander and Lester Wills. John then joins the fight against apartheid in South Nambia.

Superman visits Hal and demands that he control John. Jordan initially rejects Superman's demands, but eventually concedes that he must act. During a festival in South Nambia, John and Hal fight. The revolutionaries detonate a bomb during the fight which kills many people and sinks a new tanker. John and Hal join forces to save lives.

In the aftermath, John tries to give his ring back to Hal, who refused. John decides to journey into space to clear his head.
