Scientist Henry Pym invents a formula which allows him to shrink objects to a fraction of their normal size. Another formula allows him to restore the objects to normal. Pym decides to test the formula on a living being, so he uses the shrinking formula on himself.

Pym is reduced to the size of an ant. So startled by the reaction, Pym stumbles outside where he is threatened by a group of real ants. Henry is chased through an ant hill and aided by one lone ant who is friendly. Eventually, the benevolent ant brings Henry back inside his lab where he can use the growth formula to restore his size. Pym then destroys the formulas which he believes present too great a danger to be used again.
