Synopsis:
A gang of bandits rob a train loaded with army supplies and weapons. Jonah Hex is a passenger on the train. He kills two of the bandits and follows the other two to the Antelope Springs way station where the trail goes cold. The station is run by Silas Barfrey who charges travelers a hefty toll to pass. When they don't pay, they travelers are forced to go through the nearby swamp land which is dangerous.
Hex leaves the station and heads for Fort McPherson to report the train robbery. He meets a feisty old widow along the way. He reports the robbery to Colonel Reed Crandall, then returns to the way station where he fishes the old woman out of the swamp. Her two boys are dead. She blames Barfrey, but Hex won't act because his toll is legal.
Jonah decides to take the issue to Crandall only to discover that Crandall and Barfrey are working together with the train robbers. He kills one of the bandits. Crandall is also shot, prompting Hex to be branded a murderer. Hex rides back to the way station where he finds the widow's dead body. He then stands aside while the people hang Barfrey. Although the station owner tries to bribe Hex, Jonah refuses to save him.
