Synopsis:
Maude Waltham was a young girl living in London during the later part of World War II. While helping to clear a house damaged by a German rocket, Maude met Amos Featherston, a painter. They fell in love, but Amos had a brother than was said to be a madman. Maude's father forbid Maude from seeing Amos because he feared madness ran in the family. Maude refused to listen and went to see Amos. At the house, she sees Amos's brother and is chased by him around the house. She calls out for Amos in terror, but he does not come to help her. The police, summoned by Mr. Waltham, arrive and shoot the madman. Only then does Maude learn the truth. Amos had a second face hidden by long hair. He had no brother, he himself was the madman. The incident causes Maude psychological harm, and she is forced into the care of a psychiatric facility.
