Comments:
This story occurs three months after Man of Steel #6.

This is Superman's first encounter with Kryptonite.

Lois learns that Superman is an alien in this story.

Synopsis:
Superman traces his stolen rocket ship to an abandoned lab. Inside the lab he discovers data and photographs that have been collected about him. He also finds the dead body of the lab owner. Superman takes the lab into orbit to protect the evidence until he can continue his investigation.

Clark Kent then meet Lois for a date. While jogging they hear the alarms tripped at a nearby bank. They investigate and discover a large man named Metallo inside. Clark becomes Superman and begins fighting Metallo. However, Metallo is a cyborg with a Kryptonite heart and is able to overpower the Man of Steel.

Metallo remembers that he was created in the lab that Superman found. The professor thought Superman was a scout for an alien invasion, and created Metallo to kill him. The cyborg decided to kill the professor first.

When Lex Luthor hears about Superman's fight with Metallo from his secretary, he becomes angry since he wants the glory of killing Superman himself. Just when it appears that Superman is beaten, Metallo disappears from the scene. Superman suspects that it was Luthor who spirited his foe away. Once out of range from Metallo's Kryptonite heart, the Man of Steel recovers from his injuries.
